2016 saw Baggsy return to Castle Combe Race Circuit for the petrolhead popular Forge Motorsport Action Day. Along with a select group of Forge associated drivers, Baggsy ripped up the black top of Castle Combe for the crowds in his V8 powered S13. Two demo sessions left the Wiltshire countryside circuit in a blanket of tyre smoke.
It’s always a great pleasure to be driving on track at the Forge Motorsport Action Day. Castle Combe is an awesome track for drifting. The atmosphere is always good and its great interacting with the fans. Even though it was a bit of a wet start to the day, the crowd was brilliant. Looking forward to heading back next year so Baggsy.
Next up for Baggsy was The British Drift Championship Round 5 at Anglesey Circuit in Wales. With a championship revamp in 2016, the final round of the BDC promised to be an exciting one.
A two turn track with 4 clipping points proved to be a very technical layout. With fast entries and a tyre wall to catch you out on turn one, there was no room for error.
Baggsy put in two solid qualifying runs, bagging himself a 4th place qualification and a buy into the top 16. Right before his first battle of top 16 the good old English weather took a slight turn. With the rain starting to fall and strong costal winds sweeping across, the track conditions changed very quickly.
Baggsy would take on Driftworks driver Richard Grindrod, with both drivers being caught out by the weather change. After two runs the advantage went to Grindrod by just one point ending the weekend early for Baggsy.
It was my first time at Anglesey Circuit. I really gelled with the track quickly, it was all about getting the right line from the entry. I qualified fourth which i was really happy with, it also got us a buy into the top 16.
Just before my first battle it started spitting with rain, so we adjusted the car as best we could. Unfortunately Grindrod took a 7-3 advantage on the first run with myself taking a 6-4 on the second. I had a great weekend at the final round of BDC. It’s great to see whats been done with the series in 2016 and I’m looking forward to whats to come for 2017.
