KW automotive further extends its KW Competition racing program

The KW Competition dampers and suspension kits are available in numerous variants and are used in the official customer motorsports programs of many automobile manufacturers such as BMW, KIA, Mercedes, Opel, Porsche and others.

At the Professional MotorSport World Expo, KW presented new dampers for the GT4- and TCR- regulations and the 4-way adjustable racing damper celebrates its premiere in Cologne.

World premiere: KW 4-way Competition dampers

The new KW Competition TTRSPW4A TwinTube 4-way damper is precisely adjustable in low speed and high speed forces of the compression damping as well as in rebound damping with 18 clicks each.

Its operating principal with a solid piston system enables a precise damping even at the lowest strokes. The new KW valve technology allows individual characteristics design and with the operating principal, it covers a large force range of approx. 1000 to 8000 N. Depending on the customer’s request, the modular built damper valves can also be extended with an additional blow-off-characteristic.

“At the end, a modular low speed adjustment range will be available for the customer and parallel we are working on a very interesting valve, which can optionally be integrated into the damper”, explains KW R&D Engineer Tim Schroeder. “Additionally the valve positioning enables cavitation-free operation at a low gas pressure.”

Due to its design the damper is for non-wheel-guiding axle constructions like double wishbones or pushrod suspensions for proto types, GT, touring cars and formula cars.

The extern reservoir is connected to the damper either as a “piggyback” directly or via hose connection. After different tests during the ongoing motorsport season, the new KW 4-way adjustable damper is unveiled before the official market launch for the season 2018.

New KW Competition damper generation for TCR and GT4 cars

The KW Competition 2A EXR are the consequent further development of the 2-way adjustable racing dampers for the use in GT4 and TCR racing.

The damper forces are generated on the working piston and the compression valve in the expansion tank.

Due to the external reservoir, the gas volume can be adapted to the damper stroke and higher damping forces can be realized with a lower static gas pressure than with mono tube gas pressure dampers without separate pressure stage bottom valve.

The design of the gas volume is not limited by the damper stroke. During compression, the low gas pressure progression of the new KW damper ensures that even strong suggestions do not destabilize the vehicle body and even the passing over curbs is easier for the driver to control.

On the external reservoir, the compression stage can be adjusted (up to 1500N). The rebound stage can be adjusted with 18 tactile clicks (up to 1200N). The compression valve block in the reservoir can be rotated 360° if needed and can optionally be equipped with a 2-way compression valve block. If the installation position requires, the damper can also be connected to a remote reservoir via hose connection.

Our KW Competition racing program offers a wide range ensuring the right racing solution for every kind of motorsports and regulations. KW Competition solutions are available in different versions which includes 4-way, 3-way and 2-way adjustable racing damper technologies. A fixed pre-confi gured damping set-up is also available. Our vehiclespecific racing suspensions are produced as homologated series developments for numersous GT3, GT4, TCR and Cup cars or as individual application for your successful race.

For many years we have focused our expertise on the circuit, cup, hill climb and drift suspensions. In addition, we specialize in the individual manufacturing of rally suspension and racing suspension systems for vintage motorsport using the latest damper technology and individual setup on our 7 post riving dynamics test rig in accordance with today’s latest and greatest technology.

Upon request, we will afterwards also support you in the validation at the racetrack. Our racing technicians will support your team in the suspension setup, can make setup changes and damper tests directly in the paddock.
