Tribute to Georg Plasa – The Italian Chapter

At the 25th Goodwood Festival of Speed 2018 we wrote history for our deceased friend Georg Plasa and now we are on our way to Italy – the FIA HILL CLIMB MASTERS in Gubbio is calling!

You probably all know the name Georg Plasa who unfortunately died in 2011 during a race. Following his death, Georg’s brother contacted Klaus Wohlfarth (founder of KW Automotive and good friend of Georg) as several race teams were offering to purchase Georg’s four-time, back-to-back FIA European Hill Climb Championship-winning BMW E36, along with its full spares package.

Klaus Wohlfarth (knew that if another race team would purchase the car, they would re-paint it and put it into competition, potentially destroying its legacy.

He quietly acquired the car from the Plasa family and stored it in his private garage. This is where it sat for several years, before Georg’s family and friends decided on a plan what to do next with the car.

In memory of Georg Plasa, a team of KW employees rebuilt the BMW and brought the car to the Goodwood Festival of Speed for the first time ever, where it took part in the hill climb event.

These days were very emotional for all of us and we wrote history in the name of Georg Plasa.

With its famous high-revving and well over 550 bhp JUDD KV675 V8 engine, the BMW and driver Joerg Weidinger attacked the VIP of the international motorsport industry.

Against all the odds Joerg produced a mind blasting time of 46.43 seconds in the garden of Charles Gordon-Lennox, 11th Duke of Richmond.

Georg’s legendary old BMW 3-series was the fastest car powered with a conventional internal combustion engine with third place overall, winning everyone’s heart!

The Italian Chapter

Save the date! On October 12th – 14th 2018 Georg Plasa’s BMW 320 JUDD V8 will be back in Italy! Georg lives on in the hearts of many Italian Hill Climb and Motorsport fans and therefore we will bring “Giorgio’s” legendary BMW back to “Italia”!

As a tribute to our friend Georg and all Italian fans we won’t showcase “Giorgio’s BMW” in the paddock – no, we will bring the legend back on track! Our team will fire up the JUDD V8 once more on the hillside of the Apennine mountains. Never forget!
