For more than 15 years Manthey-Racing, the Porsche racing team, and KW automotive, the suspension manufacturer, have worked closely in partnership. In addition to a long-standing success story in motorsports, Manthey-Racing also works together with the suspension manufacturer on street-legal vehicles.

The technique, only the technique at that time, induced the founder, former managing director, team boss, and racing driver Olaf Manthey to collaborate with KW automotive.

At the beginning of 2004, the Porsche racing team in the Eifel (Area in the Northwest of Germany and home of the legendary Nordschleife) turned to us in Fichtenberg with R&D questions regarding the new front axle design of the Porsche 911 (996) GT3, and the long-standing story of success is history.

On the Nürburgring Nordschleife alone, the Porsche specialist, in which the sports car manufacturer Porsche has held a 51 percent stake since 2013, is the most successful Porsche motorsport team.

KW automotive was able to celebrate numerous class victories and overall victories in the Nürburgring endurance series and the Nürburgring 24-hour race together with its motorsports customer Manthey-Racing.

Manthey-Racing and the suspension manufacturer also work closely together on road driven vehicles.

In addition, under the umbrella of Manthey-Racing and the Porsche Service Centre Meuspath, Raeder Motorsport is a performance brand for non-Porsche sports cars and vehicles is also a partner of KW automotive.

The fastest road-legal Porsche of all time with production performance: Porsche 911 GT2 RS MR

In autumn 2018, Porsche R&D driver Lars Kern eternalized himself with his record lap of 6:40.33 min in the 700 hp Porsche 911 GT2 RS MR on the Nürburgring Nordschleife.

Compared to the normal Porsche 911 GT2 RS, the “MR” differs with its so-called Manthey-Racing Kit with top-notch components. Alongside an KW Clubsport 3-way / 4-way coilover kit; the Manthey-Racing Kit for the Porsche 911 GT2 RS includes a flow-optimized underbody paneling set made of lightweight carbon fiber.

Furthermore, Manthey-Racing revised the GT2 RS series aerodynamics for more downforce with air deflectors, aero discs, flaps, diffuser, rear wing, new mounting bracket for the rear wing, and gurney lip made of carbon.

Manthey-Racing saves another kilogram with a carbon-fiber engine cover and an MR magnesium wheelset in 9.5 x 20 inch ET50 and 12.5 x 21 inch ET48. The lightweight magnesium wheelset from Manthey-Racing is available in the colors black side matt, brilliant silver, and platinum silver matt and gold, and, unlike the original wheelset, can be fitted with the aero discs from the MR package.

Also new is the MR water tank, which increases the capacity from five liters to 14 liters. The MR kit, available directly from Manthey-Racing, is rounded off with MR steel flex brake lines and MR brake pads.

The MR Kit for the Porsche 911 GT2 RS is available in two versions with or without a magnesium wheelset directly from Manthey Racing as a complete package for 64.911 Euro (net price, without wheels) or 79.911 (net price, with wheels) including installation and individual adjustment.

The new KW Clubsport coilover suspension helps to achieve faster lap times

The 3-way / 4-way KW Clubsport coilover suspension, constructed from aluminum, impressed during independent testing from automobile magazines such as Autobild Sportscars, TopGear, and Sportauto with its high driving dynamics, precision, and fast damping without delay.

For example, the road-legal production Porsche 911 GT2 RS MR with its 700 hp performance and the suspension technology set a range of new lap records: 6:40.33 minutes Nürburgring Nordschleife (Sportauto lap), 1:49.50 minutes Portimao Circuit Algrave (Portugal), 1:42.43 minutes Bilster Berg (Germany), 1:25.30 minutes Sachsenring (Germany), 1:43.47 min Hockenheim Ring (Germany) and 1:24.88 minutes at Road Atlanta (North America). The KW Clubsport coilovers are constructed similarly to the Manthey-Racing coilover suspension kit and the homologated KW motorsports shocks for the Porsche 911 GT3 R.

KW motorsport technology for the road

On the front axle we use a KW variation of a monotube shock which we refer to as SingleTube, as in motorsport, while on the drive axle we manufacture a KW TwinTube damper with Solid Piston Technology. Due to the high stress and forces generated on the 991.2, KW manufactures the MacPherson front axle struts of the KW Clubsport coilover suspension with 3-way adjustable KW damper cartridges in an upside-down (inverted mono-tube) design configuration.

On the front axle shock absorber, the damper forces are generated by the working piston and the low-speed and high-speed compression stage valves in the reservoir. The integrated adjuster wheels provide 16 clicks of rebound, 13 clicks of low-speed compression and 14 clicks of high-speed compression stage damping for fine-tuning the setup for the respective track profile. The reservoir, which is independent of position, also allows the gas pressure-volume to be adjusted.

Cross-Section of an KW Sold Piston Shock

The big advantage with the KW SingleTube-Technology is a much lower gas pressure can be used. We use the same damper technology for example in the Porsche 911 GT2 RS Clubsport limited special model and the Porsche 935 (991.2).

Even during aggressive steering maneuvers, the chassis is perfectly supported, and truncated or overdriven curbs are damped by the Clubsport suspension. For example, if the Porsche 911 has the optional Porsche lift system on the front axle, this can be combined with the Clubsport coilover suspension kit.

On the rear axle, we use 4-way adjustable KW Twin-Tube dampers with solid piston technology. The use of a reservoir or piggy pack is not necessary here and the compression and rebound valves connected in series are separated from the damper working piston.

The adjustment of the individual damper setup is done by the purple and yellow adjusters directly on the shock absorber. With 13 exact clicks each (14 characteristics), the low-speed and high-speed damper forces can be adjusted in both the compression and rebound stages. Even with small suspension travel, steering movements, and minimal road undulations, the suspension reacts immediately.

During powerful acceleration from the car, the dampers support the tires and provide exceptional traction and support for the body structure. A Porsche 911 equipped with an KW Clubsport coilover suspension kit provides safe handling in every driving situation.

The new KW Clubsport coilovers have a parts certificate and are only available at exclusive and approved KW automotive partners outside of Germany for Porsche 911 (991.2) GT2 RS.
