t’s no secret that we offer one of the widest selections of stepless adjustable coilovers for lowering vehicles. This is well-known to anyone who appreciates more than just basic transportation and seeking performance and style beyond everyday driving.
Even for seemingly exotic cars like the Audi A2, we’ve developed various KW coilover suspensions with parts certificates. It’s hard to believe that the Audi A2 has already become a young classic. In 1999, this streamlined small car debuted as a five-seater with fuel-efficient gasoline and diesel engines. It was even followed by the groundbreaking A2 TDI 3L, a fuel-saving marvel back in the days. The entire series was truly ahead of its time.
Marking the 25th anniversary of the Audi A2, trainees and students have reimagined the small car as the electric A2 e-tron Concept. According to electromobility blogs like ecomento.de, the concept borrows the electric motor from the Audi Q8 e-tron.
The A2 e-tron Concept is reportedly powered by a system delivering 224 hp (165 kW). Borrowing the compact 25 kWh battery from the Audi Q7 plug-in hybrid, the concept is estimated to achieve a consumption of 14 kWh per 100 kilometers, according to ecomento.de
The futuristic design of the original A2 was selectively refined for the A2 e-tron. The rear license plate was relocated from the tailgate to the rear apron. The grille, front and rear aprons were redesigned, and mirrors were replaced with small cameras. The alloy wheels now feature a closed design.
The headlights and taillights have also been updated, and the Audi rings now illuminate with LEDs. The trainees and students added LED lighting to the tailgate spoiler, which doubles as a third brake light. Inside, the Audi received minor updates, including new seats and a modified instrument cluster.
The project team once again turned to KW for the suspension. We’ve previously equipped various Audi one-offs, including the NSU EP4 earlier this year.
While our colleagues from prototype construction and KW Individualbau adapted a KW V3 Clubsport coilover suspension based on the Audi A1 for the NSU EP4, the Audi A2 e-tron project benefited from our existing product range. We were able to utilize a KW V3 coilover suspension with a parts certificate, which is readily available for all Audi A2 models.
While the Audi A2 is considered an exotic vehicle and we don’t keep a coilover suspension kit in stock, our adaptable production system enables us to quickly manufacture a kit upon request. For the Audi A2 e-tron, we tailored a KW V3 coilover suspension by modifying the damper design and spring rates to accommodate the specific demands of the electric drivetrain.
It’s unfortunate that the Audi A2 e-tron will likely not reach series production. However, for owners of the original Audi A2, we are pleased to offer KW coilover suspensions, complete with a parts certificate, available at any time.
