It’s official: The development of our KW V3 coilover suspension kits, adjustable in compression and rebound damping, for all BMW M3 (G80) and BMW M4 (G82) models with classic rear-wheel drive and BMW xDrive (all-wheel drive) is now finished – including the M4 Convertible (G83) and M3 Touring (G81). You get the KW V3 at our authorized dealers and directly from us.
However, back in the summer of 2021, we had already introduced the KW V4, also known as the KW Variant 4 coilover suspension kit with a parts certificate, for the G80 and G82 models. At that time, it was only available for the BMW M3 and M4 models with rear-wheel drive, including the Convertible (G83).
KW V3 – our coilover kit for the perfect road holding
When it comes to choosing the right suspension system, it’s easy to get overwhelmed with options. But for those who primarily use their car for daily driving, don’t have an adaptive stock suspension, avoid racetracks and track days, and are looking for a sleek and stylish performance stance, the answer is clear: The KW V3. With its separate adjustments for compression and rebound damping, the KW V3 offers a perfect balance of style and function for any BMW M3 (G80) or BMW M4 (G82) owner.
The KW V3 coilover suspension system is a top choice for any car enthusiast looking to upgrade their ride, whether it’s a classic car or a modern BMW M3 (G80) or BMW M4 (G82), including the M3 Touring (G81) and M4 Convertible (G83). Its advanced features, including separate adjustments for compression and rebound damping, make it the perfect choice for drivers who demand optimal performance and style.
There has been a lot of coverage on the current generation of BMW M3 and BMW M4, with many discussions taking place on social media about their designs.
Unfortunately, what has often been overlooked in these discussions was that the G8x series M3 and M4, which have been available since spring 2021, once again set the benchmark for driving dynamics in their class.
Whether in sedan or coupe form, the current “M” is simply a true BMW M and leaves you wanting more. With our KW V3 coilover suspension system, all BMW M enthusiasts can now unleash the full potential of their G80, G81, G82, and G83 models on the road.
For stance enthusiasts, the KW V3 coilover suspension kit is a must-have upgrade for BMW M3 sedan (G80), BMW M3 Touring (G81), BMW M4 Coupe (G82), and M4 Convertible (G83) models. Our Kit offers continuous lowering of the vehicle, with a range of 20 to 35 millimeters at the front and 15 to 30 millimeters at the rear for classic BMW rear-wheel drive models, as per the parts certificate. The KW V3 is also available for BMW M3 and BMW M4 models with xDrive all-wheel drive, with the same continuous lowering range as the KW coilover suspension kit for classic BMW rear-wheel drive models.
From the factory, modern cars are actually “dropped and stanced” compared to a 1986 BMW M3 (E30), and many people believe that a 30-millimeter lowering is not worth mentioning.
The true impact of a 35 mm or 30 mm suspension lowering can be seen in these images. It’s worth noting that our BMW M3 model is equipped with stylish 21-inch BBS alloy wheels from TVW Car Design, which nicely fill out the wheel arches.
For years, our KW V3 coilover suspension kit – previously known as the KW Variant 3 – has been known for its unbeatable price-performance ratio. In a way, it’s also the inspiration behind the BMW M Performance suspension system that’s available as an option for BMW vehicles.
It gives every BMW M perfect driving behavior right from its factory pre-dialed basic suspension setup and as a great extra, even the possibility to adjust the driving dynamics, handling, and even the rolling comfort by yourself with the separate compression and rebound adjustment.
Adjusting your own setup with a KW V3 coilover suspension kit for the BMW M3 (G80) and BMW M4 (G82) has never been easier. Each of our adjustable coilovers comes with a setup guide to help you customize your setup.
But as with all of our KW coilover suspension kits, the KW V3 is already pre-set with a vehicle-specific setup that has been carefully determined through extensive road testing.
You don’t need to make any adjustments to the compression or rebound damping when installing the suspension. However, if you want to make any changes to the setup, you have 12 click positions for the compression damping and 16 click positions for the rebound damping that you can adjust.
On modern vehicles like the BMW M4 (G80) and BMW M4 (G82), you can easily access the adjustment knobs for compression and rebound damping without any major difficulties.
Sometimes, it may be necessary to remove various covers in the engine compartment to access the adjustment knob for the rebound damping and insert it into the piston rod.
For this reason, KW also offers various “extension shafts”, which will soon be available for the latest BMW M models.
This is how a BMW M rides with a KW V3
With our KW V3 coilover suspension, a current BMW M3 and BMW M4 drive as if on rails. Even on country roads, a G80 can be effortlessly maneuvered with our V3. The BMW M steers directly, just as a sporty car should.
Our KW coilover suspension kit in the BMW M3 and M4 (Gx) provides traction on every meter of the road and cleanly dampens typical irregularities on country roads. A dream comes true. For those who have adjusted the pre-set basic setup to be a bit sharper and stiffer, the multi-valve technology used in the KW V3 means that there is no need to worry about sacrificing driving comfort.
The pre-set high-speed compression damping of the KW V3 coilover suspension facilitates swift compression in the event of sudden shocks, such as driving over bumps, while simultaneously ensuring that the tire maintains grip on the road surface. This technical feature is a critical aspect of the KW V3’s overall design, and enhances the vehicle’s handling and stability, particularly in high-speed driving situations.
Also, the rebound valve, like the compression valve, is built with a high-speed and low-speed valve. On the V3, the low-speed forces can be adjusted, and a typical low-speed excitation is, for example, steering movements
Built-to-order production process – as with every KW coilover suspension kit
One of the unique features of our KW kits is that we only begin the production of a KW coilover suspension kit after receiving your order. Our flexibility and wide range of capabilities allow us to handle batch sizes as small as one without any difficulties.
In our mechanical processing alone, we are so fast that we can manufacture a large portion of the components (shock absorber tubes, strut housings and mounting brackets) directly in Fichtenberg within a day.
All in all, a KW coilover suspension kit then goes on its journey to your KW specialist dealer or directly to your home after five to ten working days.
We have dug up an old KW V3 video for you that has already been around for several years. It gives you a nice overview of how we used to manufacture the KW coilover suspensions for you after receiving orders.
If you’d like to get a glimpse behind the scenes with us, simply click on the image above. There, you’ll see how we were able to significantly accelerate our manufacturing processes.
If you’re looking for a suspension installation partner or a certified KW dealer in your area, simply open our dealer search on the KW homepage.
In addition to the already available KW V3 and KW V4 coilover suspensions, we are also working on further suspension kits for the BMW M3 and BMW M4. An adaptive KW DDC plug&play coilover suspension kit is in the planning. For track day enthusiasts, the KW V4 Clubsport coilover suspension is already available and maybe we will also launch a KW V5 Clubsport coilover suspension kit in the future.
