KW V3 Coilover Kit for Hyundai Ioniq 5 N and Ioniq 5

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 N is a force to be reckoned with and rarely has a crossover SUV powered by electricity impressed not only the “We think everything is cool” influencers but also Europe’s largest automobile club, the ADAC. The ADAC’s headline for the Ioniq 5 test was: “This is how Hyundai’s electric car outperforms the competition.” And they seem to be correct. With the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N, the Korean manufacturer champions the cause of e-mobility. So far, no other car manufacturer has infused the electric car segment with as much driving pleasure as Hyundai.

Of course, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N is not designed for everyday use—it doesn’t have to be, and it doesn’t aim to be. For that, the “normal” Hyundai Ioniq 5 models are available with both rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive. However, on the KW Automotive blog, we have always focused on our coilover suspensions, now available for all Hyundai Ioniq 5 models, including the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N.

If you don’t drive an “N,” the KW V3 coilover kit fits all Ioniq 5 models. Whether it’s all-wheel drive or rear-wheel drive doesn’t matter. The Ioniq 5 models, ranging from 170 to 325 hp, can be lowered between 25 to 50 millimeters on the front axle and 20 to 45 millimeters on the rear axle (except the Ioniq 5 N).

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 N’s KW V3 suspension allows you to personalize the ride by adjusting the low-speed compression damping using the purple knob on the bottom of the strut.

On the other hand, the N boasts plenty of power, a reinforced and stiffer body, and different axle geometry due to its high-performance electric drive. While the front motor contributes 226 hp to the system, the rear motor delivers 383 hp. The combined system output is 609 hp and 740 Nm. At the push of a button, the total power increases to 650 hp and 770 Nm for about ten seconds. It comes with a lower ride height from the factory, and due to its unique axle geometry, the KW V3 coilover suspension from the other Ioniq 5 models is incompatible.

The Ioniq 5 N, with its standard all-wheel drive, allows for a customizable ride height adjustment of 10 and 35 millimeters on both axles using the KW V3 coilover suspension.

The KW V3 coilover suspensions are known for providing the perfect balance between enhanced driving dynamics and ride comfort while allowing for maximum lowering in every retrofitted vehicle.

This is achieved not only through progressive suspension springs but also by the two-stage compression and rebound valves, consisting of a pre-configured high-speed valve and an adjustable low-speed valve in the Ioniq 5 N and Ioniq 5.

For long bumps or cornering on flat ground, meaning slow suspension excitation, the KW V3 coilover suspension operates in the low-speed range. When driving on uneven roads or over short, hard bumps, much higher damping speeds occur. The high-speed valves open, and due to the higher oil flow, the increase in damping force is lower than in the low-speed range despite the faster piston movement. This allows hard shocks to be absorbed smoothly.

The Ioniq 5 N can produce up to 650 horsepower when boost is activated.

The KW V3 provides a safe driving experience across all model variants and engines of the Hyundai Ioniq 5, significantly enhancing the crossover SUV’s ride comfort. The KW V3 valve technology maintains this advantage even with maximum lowering and intense vehicle excitation. For those seeking more, the KW V3 coilover suspension allows you to fine-tune the setup yourself.

Here is the preset basic setup of the KW V3 coilover suspension for the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N pictured.

The low-speed rebound valve can be manually adjusted to close the flow cross-section to achieve more direct handling and a tighter connection between the crossover body and the road. Conversely, opening the valve results in more forgiving steering and improved ride comfort.

The KW V3 coilover suspension provides 16 clicks of adjustable low-speed rebound damping and allows the option to tune low-speed compression damping forces independently. With 12 clicks, the wheel compression can be adjusted to be firmer or softer. Higher compression damping forces support the body structure when steering, enhancing handling and grip.

For comparison, this is how the preset basic setup looks for the KW V3 coilover suspension on other Hyundai Ioniq 5 models.

Tuning the setup yourself is straightforward. It’s crucial to proceed methodically and record your adjustments. Focus on one setting at a time. For instance, you can increase the front axle rebound by up to two clicks to improve handling for sharper turns. Then, test drive the vehicle.
