We now offer various KW suspensions coilover kits for an increasing number of electric vehicles, such as the BMW i4 eDrive40, BYD Seal, Ford Mustang Mach-E, Hyundai Ioniq 5 N, Kia EV6 GT, Nio ET5, and VW ID.7. Even our ST suspensions brand now has coilover suspensions for the electric segment. Why not?

Back in 2018, we were the first suspension manufacturer to present a KW V3 coilover suspension on a specially imported Tesla Model 3 (rear-wheel drive) at the Essen Motor Show. Later, we developed new top mounts for the pre-facelift versions of the Model 3 and Model Y. These are always included with our KW V1, KW V3, and KW V3 Leveling kits for the Model 3 and Model Y, as the original top mounts on pre-facelift models tended to creak.

The facelift models of the Tesla Model 3 Performance and Tesla Model Y Performance with all-wheel drive come factory-equipped with adaptive dampers. Since 2011, we have been offering semi-active coilover suspensions for various vehicles under the KW suspensions brand. Now, our semi-active DDC coilover suspensions are also available for the Model 3 and Model Y.

The lowering is adjusted manually via the trapezoidal thread on the stainless steel strut bodies at the front axle and via the rear height adjustment, just like on all other KW coilover suspensions. Within the scope of the parts certification, the Model 3 Performance facelift (available since 2024) and the Model Y Performance facelift (available in Europe since August 2025) can be lowered steplessly by between 25 and 50 millimeters on both axles.

The DDC coilover suspension is installed like any other suspension. Afterwards …
… the proportional valve mounted on the right strut is connected to the vehicle electronics via the plug
When installing the adaptive DDC plug&play coilover suspension in the Tesla, the original connectors of the factory damper control are simply plugged in — true plug&play. No interventions or modifications to the control electronics are necessary. The vehicle’s onboard electronics immediately recognize the KW DDC plug&play coilover suspension and take over full control.

The adaptive KW DDC dampers react in real time to the signals and adjust the driving behavior accordingly. Thanks to the KW DDC plug&play coilover suspension, the Tesla Model 3 Performance and Model Y Performance deliver sporty-harmonious, sporty-dynamic, or even comfort-oriented driving characteristics depending on the selected driving mode.

Customers who installed a KW coilover suspension in their Tesla Model 3 have reported an increase in range. For example, the electric car specialist rental company Nextmove from Arnstadt measured a 7 percent higher range with a KW coilover suspension.

On the Tesla Model 3, BBS CI-R Unlimited light alloy wheels are fitted in 9 x 21 inches with Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric tires in 245/30R21 at the front and 10 x 21 inches with 295/25R21 at the rear (driver’s side in Racing Gold with gold-colored rim lip protection, passenger side in White Gold with blue rim lip protection). On the Tesla Model Y, the wheels are two-piece BBS CH-R II Unlimited.

On the driver’s side, the star is finished in gloss black and the bowl in titanium matte. On the passenger side, the star is painted in Racing Gold and the bowl in matte black. The two-piece CH-R II wheels are mounted in 9.5 x 21 inches with 255/35R21 Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric tires.
