DTM 2022: Sheldon Van der Linde wins the DTM championship, KW motorsport customer Schubert Motorsport wins team classification

The past weekend was a very special one for Sheldon Van der Linde and Schubert Motorsport in their new BMW M4 GT3 (#31).

The DTM is over, and winners were selected: The past weekend was a very special one for Sheldon Van der Linde and Schubert Motorsport in their new BMW M4 GT3 (#31). The 23-year-old Sheldon Van der Linde won the DTM championship for the first time, and his team Schubert Motorsport had the best rating in the team classification. Since 2022 the BMW 4 GT3 is used as a customer sports car. It is equipped with KW V6 Racing Solid Piston (Competition 5A Spec II) dampers and proved itself in its premier year with the championship title.

With a score of 164 points in the driver standings, Sheldon Van der Linde won the DTM championship last Sunday. On Saturday, things looked different at first: Due to rule violations of his team, Sheldon Van der Linde was moved back ten positions on P16. Nevertheless, he worked his way up to the second place, despite some accidents by competitors.

At the season final the freshly crowned DTM winner started at P5 and drove an error-free race in his BMW M4 GT3. In the end, Sheldon Van der Linde from South Africa secured the championship in 2022 by finishing in the third position.

Victory for Sheldon Van der Linde from Schubert Motorsport (#31) – a dream came true

Sheldon Van der Linde is more than happy: “Since I was a kid, I had the dream to drive in the DTM. To even have won it now makes me incredibly proud and happy.”

The KW customer team Sheldon Van der Linde is part of had another reason to celebrate: Schubert Motorsport won the team classification in the DTM 2022 with a score of 226 points. Moreover, BMW saved third place in the manufacturer classification with 327 points.

On Sunday, Marco Wittmann won the race with the BMW M4 GT3 (#11). Marco Wittmann already won the DTM championship title twice. In the driver classification, he made it to eighth place with a total of 98 points.

On Saturday, the vehicle collided with a competitor but was quickly repaired. Philipp Eng (#25) made it to sixth place and was able to secure important points.

The highlights of the DTM 2022 season final

A thrilling and exciting DTM season is now over and our KW customers achieved the following rankings: Next to the team classification for Schubert Motorsports, the team of SSR Performance made it to eighth place with 119 points. Küs Team Bernhard is in tenth place. With a total of 101 points, Walkenhorst Motorsport made it to the eleventh place. Congratulations on a successful DTM!

Last week, our KW colleague Tim Heinemann made it! In a Toyota GR Supra GT4, Tim Heinemann from Toyota Gazoo Racing powered by Ring-Racing (#90) secured his sixth exploit of the season. With 235 points he took the title as the DTM Trophy champion of 2022.

Tim Heinemann (#90) started from position 4 and quickly made it to the first position. Even two safety-car phases couldn’t stop him. Congratulations on the well-deserved victory!

DTM Classic: Olaf Manthey wins class 5

We also congratulate Olaf Manthey (#6) who won the DTM Classic Cup in class 5 in his BMW 635 CSi (E24) the past weekend.
