The fact that we offer various suspension options for various Ferraris is nothing new. For years, we have been developing our components for tuners of Italian sports cars or distributing height-adjustable springs and coilover suspension kits through our KW specialist importers and partners.
Between us, it’s not a sacrilege. Even purist Ferrari enthusiasts who have experienced our suspension engineering in their Ferrari 365 GT 2+2, Ferrari Testarossa, Ferrari F348, Ferrari F430, Ferrari 360 Modena, Ferrari 575M Maranello, Ferrari 599 GTB or Ferrari F12 Berlinetta are becoming loyal customers of our KW coilover kits with adjustable damper characteristics. The KW V5 coilover kit for the Ferrari F8 Tributo and Ferrari F8 Spider, including a parts certificate, is available.
We are also developing suspensions for an increasing number of Ferrari vehicles based on our Solid Piston dampers. This development is based on our displacement pistons for various special OE and motorsport applications.
You don’t have a clue what Solid Pistons are, do you?
No problem. We primarily use our so-called solid piston suspension kits in motorsport applications. As early as 2017, we presented our first four-way adjustable Solid Piston dampers for racing cars at the Motorsport World Expo in Cologne (Germany). We have continuously developed these over the past few years and increasingly use them with parts certificates in our applications.
All of our motorsport dampers for GT3 racing cars or even the Lamborghini SC63 LMDh racing cars developed by Lamborghini Squadra Corse are based on our Solid Piston developments.
The easiest way to recognize our suspensions with Solid Piston technology and parts certificates is to look for the “V5” in their article name. In addition to the KW V5 coilover kit now available for the Ferrari F8 Tributo, we also have the KW V5 Clubsport coilover kit in our range for other vehicles. However, there are also a few electronically adjustable KW DDC plug-and-play coilover suspension kits in which we also use our Solid Piston technology, but the alphanumeric designation V5 does not appear.
The special feature of our Solid Piston suspensions is that the dampers work completely differently in detail from the typical single-tube and twin-tube dampers. Unlike conventional dampers, in which the working piston overflows, our Solid Piston dampers generate a volume displacement depending on the piston diameter. This leads to a significant improvement in the response and frequency behavior of the damping.
As a result, the damper valves are not located in the working piston at all, but rather in their own housing. Even with a small valve stroke, the separately adjustable valves (high-speed compression stage, high-speed rebound stage, low-speed compression stage, low-speed rebound stage) in the KW V5 work at high frequency and with precision. This means the entire damping system works much more sensitively, and we can cover greater forces using hydraulics. In direct comparison with the original suspension of the Ferrari F8 Tributo, which offers harmonious overall tuning, the original assistance and control systems intervene much later with our KW V5.
When encountering road bumps, the KW V5 coilover kit already damps in the preset basic setup harmoniously in the compression stage in the Ferrari, ensuring that even driving on country roads and small side roads remains relaxed in everyday use with the super sports car. Even when driving over manhole covers, expansion joints, or small bumps, the KW coilover kit cleanly damps this unevenness with a short spring travel.
No matter what the setup or road, the Ferrari F8 Tributo with the KW V5 coilover kit responds more dynamically than the standard suspension. The entire steering becomes even more precise than in the “Race mode” of the standard suspension, the handling becomes more direct, and the Italian super sports car can be driven with plenty of safety reserves even at the limit.
Of course, this also works in conjunction with maximum lowering. Many of our enthusiastic suspension customers always choose our developments because they want to take advantage of the possibility of maximum lowering in addition to a demonstrably better roadholding – even in super sports cars like the Ferrari F8 Tributo.
With its shorter struts, the KW V5 coilover kit lowers the center of gravity of the F8 Tributo and F8 Spider by 10 millimeters. In addition, the chassis can be lowered by a further 20 millimeters to a maximum lowering of 30 millimeters. The KW V5 coilover kit is only available for the F8 without a lift system. The KW V5 coilover kit is also optionally available with a KW Liftkit (HLS).
The KW V5 coilover kit for the Ferrari F8 Tributo includes deactivation kits (cancellation kits) for the electronic damper adjustment. These are simply connected during installation and only restrict the functions of the original damper control. All other features of the so-called Ferrari Dynamic Enhancer, such as the F1 Traction Control System and Electric Differential, remain active.
