Hero at the hill: the “Neumayr” Ford Escort Mk II

Sometimes if you don´t really know what to write, you always start with a provocative questions. These thoughts obviously the British editor Robb Pritchard also had in fall 2016, when he introduced Christopher Neumayrs Escort for the holy crail of car magazines for Ford fans: “Performance Ford”.

The provocative question back then on the cover was “The Ultimate Escort”? Well, we personally know somebody, who drives a Ford himself and he just praises Christopher Neumayrs Escort Mk II RS.

“If the ‘Neumayr RS’ is the best, I don´t know, but the Escort is full of ingenuity and really fast”, said Andreas Kokor, who starts himself at different hill climb races with an Escort and who is a walking encyclopaedia when it comes to Ford Escort Mk I. “I just say independent suspension at the rear axle, sequential six gear transmission from Tractiv and much more…”

As basis for Christopher´s race car, a completely new built Escort MK II was used, that got perfected more and more in the recent years. “The fact that I have built up the RS this way, is actually because of an accident”, the Austrian confesses. Right at his first drive, Christopher managed to deform the Ford with the help of a wall. Luckily, he only got bruised rips and due to the impact, the engine and gear were moved far back, so that even the rear axle was deformed.

And it also has – please excuse this choice of words – cracked in Christopher´s head. But fortunately only the RS2000 was damaged and the Austrian only had slight injuries and could go back home right away after a checkup in the hospital.

The newly bought body was worked on a lot and as far as the regulations allow, the Austrian saved weight at this new race car.

As the “Hill-Rookie” back then did not want to start right away in the “premier class” with the current “hill legends”, he decided to start in the E1-class without turbo engines.

The accurately built up two-liter Cosworth naturally aspirated engine (Code YB) with its from 77 mm to 72 mm reduced stroke turns up to 10.000 revs in a minute and mobilizes 304 hp and 254 Nm! “At TS Motorsport in Oberdarching (Bavaria), the engine was fine-tuned on a dynamometer”, said Christopher. “Valentin Schneider always helps me with valuable information and directly from him I always buy everything I need.”

Via TS Motorsport, the Austrian also bought his KW Competition 3A racing suspension, that our KW competition department has manufactured especially for the Ford.

Many motorsport fans and gentleman racers ask us on facebook, why we do not list our racing suspensions in the product finder on the homepage. “Because these are not toys”, our colleagues from the Competition department usually say with a twinkle in their eyes. But seriously, it is explained quickly. Each of our racing suspensions is a custom made, especially for the respective racing car individually manufactured racing suspensions (Sorry the YouTube-Video is only in Swabian available).

After you contact us, our colleague Maren will send to you a little “requirement specification” in which you shall enter your vehicle data and the purpose of application, etc. for your racecar (Sorry the YouTube-Video is only in Swabian available).

In case you are stumped, the colleagues stand by your side and help you with their knowhow. No matter if you need a circuit suspension, a drift suspension, a rally suspension, a suspension for your race truck, formula-bolide, hill climbing or offroad car (Sorry the YouTube-Video is only in Swabian available).

But let´s get back to the “Neumayr Escort”. Compared to many motor sport types, some hill climb championships allow almost everything that is possible around the topic aero and so it is no surprise, that Christoper´s Escort Mk II has a pretty unique aerodynamic. At a light weight of just 790 kg, the Ford needs a sophisticated aerodynamic.

Chrstoper´s Escort is just like every caring built race car in the hill climb sport conceived up to the last detail. “I actually stopped counting, how many hours I have spent on the optimization and improvement of the hardware within the last 5 years”, the Hill Climb Champion of 2016 confesses.

Just like to every hill climber, we also raise our hats to Christopher, because like all the other boys and girls in the hill climb sport, also he has nerves of steel. And you have to have those in the hill climb sport, finally the participants are up to all the dodges. Because only a few of us are that hard-boiled, that they can actually race a hill climb circuit at the limit with their car they have built up with much love, sweat and tears, and still fight about every thousands second.

In addition, many of the active hill athletes do not fight with modern sport devices against the physics, but with legendary car models, that today are moved at the limit only in the fewest cases even at classic motor sport races.
