The 24 Hours of Le Mans is the world’s oldest and most prestigious endurance race. On Saturday, June 15, 2024, the world’s most famous long-distance race starts and we are there (16:00 CET). The race has been the backdrop for Hollywood films such as “Ford v Ferrari” by James Mangold, starring Matt Damon and Christian Bale. Steve McQueen’s film Le Mans from 1971 is also unforgettable.
A milestone in our company history is the technical partnership with Lamborghini Squadra Corse.
We have developed a new generation of motorsport dampers for the motorsport department of the Italian car manufacturer.
KW Formula Racing Solid Piston dampers are designed for high-frequency operation with a short stroke. They are used in the Lamborghini SC63 LMDh hybrid race car.
What is new is that these five-way adjustable V6 Formula Racing CPR Heave dampers and three-way adjustable V5 Formula Racing CPR Roll dampers used in the SC63 use a continuous piston rod.
Due to the design, there is no gas expansion force with the “Continuous-Piston-Rod” design, and the hysteresis is lower. This means that temperature fluctuations in the damper do not influence a change in the ride height of the racing car. This is a considerable advantage for cars with much downforce, such as the Lamborghini SC63.
The Lamborghini Iron Lynx Team will field two Lamborghini SC63 LMDh racecars in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The #19 SC63 will be piloted by Matteo Cairoli, Andrea Caldarelli and Romain Grosjean. The #63 racecar will see Mirko Bortolotti, Daniil Kvyat, and Edoardo Mortara share driving the cockpit of the 24-hour endurance race.
Six LMGT3 racing cars participate with KW motorsports technology
In addition to the Lamborghini SC63, we from KW automotive also equips selected LMGT3 customer racing cars in Le Mans.
The driver lineup for the #31 M3 includes Augusto Farfus, Sean Gelael and Darren Leung while the #46 will see Ahmad Al Harthy, Maxime Martin and Valentino Rossi taking turns behind the wheel.
Richard Lietz, Morris Schuring, and Yasser Shahin start in the Manthey EMA Porsche 911 GT3 R (#91). The second Porsche 911 GT3 R (#92) will be entered by Manthey Purerxcing with Klaus Bachler, Alex Malykhin, and Joel Sturm in the cockpit.
The Heart of Racing Team will have Ian James, Daniel Mancinelli, and Alex Riberas driving the Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT3 Evo (#27) in the LMGT3, and the second Vantage (#777) will be under the flag of the Japanese racing team D’Station Racing, with Erwan Bastard, Satoshi Hoshino and Marco Sorenson sharing the cockpit
As in other GT3 racing series, the proven KW V6 Racing dampers are in use in the LMGT3 racing cars.
