The Toyota GT86/Subaru BRZ platform was never designed to be the fastest sports car in the world. But with a 200bhp naturally-aspirated engine, rear-wheel-drive transmission and kerb weight under 1200kg it was designed to be a super-fun drivers car, something which has been lacking from technology-loaded super coupes. Naturally this makes the GT86/BRZ a perfect base for a high-performance coilover upgrade from ST suspensions…
One owner taking full advantage of this is Rene Brunow from Oberhausen, Germany. Purchased new back in November 2012, Rene has been busy transforming the GT86 with a wide range of upgrades – the most recent being a ST XTA coilover system back in April 2014. This is ST’s top of the range coilover system, boasting adjustable ride height and damping, along with a camber-adjustable top mount to allow Rene to create a super-fast road setup.
As you can see from the pictures above, Rene isn’t afraid to push his GT86 to the limit – recently embarking on an epic road trip through the Jaufenpass situated between Italy and Austria.’The stock suspension is ok, but the ST XTA is awesome in comparison!’ Rene explains. ‘The feeling even at high speed driving upto 250km/h is hugely improved with the ST coilovers, I love it.’
