Even people that aren’t Mercedes fans think that the Mercedes Benz S-Class (W126) is one of the best cars of its time. In 1981 Mercedes-Benz proved that the best car of its time can even be improved by developing the S-Class fuel-injected-engine coupé alias Mercedes-Benz SEC (C126). Moreover, KW developed KW V3 Classic coilovers for this Mercedes model.
In 1979 the Mercedes-Benz S-Class (W126) was presented for the first time. Also, the 1981 launched coupé (C126) based on a luxury-class sedan was far ahead of its time. No wonder famous motorsport personalities such as Ayrton Senna, Nigel Mansell, or Keke Rosberg decided on an S-Class fuel-injected-engine coupé.
At that time, the Mercedes model was the upper-class standard. Many automotive journalists crowned the car to be the best model worldwide. Even its successors still profit from the glory of the 1979 to 1991 sedan and 1981 to 1991 built coupe.
KW V3 Classic coilovers with included parts certificate are available for all Mercedes-Benz 380 SEC, Mercedes-Benz 500 SEC, and the facelift models Mercedes-Benz 420 SEC, Mercedes-Benz 520 SEC, and Mercedes-Benz 560 SEC.
In the C126, which is based on the floor assembly of the S-Class sedan (W126), Mercedes also relied on a front axle with double wishbones and an oblique-link rear axle (diagonal swing axle).
Our coilover kits are now available for all Mercedes-Benz C126. The dampers are adjustable in compression and rebound and can lower your car to a certain height. For Mercedes enthusiasts we can give the all-clear: It is not necessary to retrofit on MacPherson struts when installing KW V3 coilovers in the SEC.
In that case, KW developed a solution. This doesn’t require any modifications at the front and rear axle wheel suspension as it is the case with the Mercedes-Benz 190 (W201). Large V8 models often had an optional starting torque support (leveling) installed which becomes superfluous when switching to the KW V3 coilovers.
Similar to our coilovers and our height-adjustable springs the lowering is adjusted via the coil spring plates. In the scope of the parts certificate, a continuous lowering of 30 to 55 millimeters at front axle 20 to 45 millimeters at rear axle is possible.
Even an old car such as the Mercedes-Benz 560 SEC (C126) gains more driving dynamics and modern driving comfort with our KW V3 Classic coilovers. Despite its comfortable handling, the 80s upper-class-coupe hardly rolls over the longitudinal axis and hardly noticeable nods over the transverse axis during acceleration and braking. The reasons are our two-way rebound and compression valves in the KW dampers.
The pre-configured highspeed valves make sure that the damper valves open within seconds when driving over speed bumps or street irregularities. Already in the pre-adjusted basis setup of our KW V3 dampers, the KW Classic coilover kit ensures a driving characteristic that is as tight as necessary and as comfortable as possible.
For example, the lowspeed rebound can be configured to be tighter or more comfortable with 16 clicks. For lowspeed compression, a chassis tuning to one’s personal needs can be selected with twelve precise click levels. The KW V3 Classic coilovers give more leeway to Mercedes-Benz enthusiasts to adjust the damper characteristic to their desired wheel/tire combination.
A Mercedes-Benz 560 SEC retrofitted with KW V3 coilovers drives more dynamic than with a suspension development which was state of the art 40 years ago. You will soon find more information about the KW V3 Classic coilover kit for the legendary 80s Mercedes-Benz Coupé at www.kwsuspensions.com.
