For decades, the BMW 5-series has been a benchmark in the upper medium class and it looks back on a 45-year model history. The new BMW 5-series (G30) was released in spring 2017 and the KW Variant 3 coilovers for the sedan are already available.
The suspension made of stainless steel allows a continuous lowering of up to 55 mm and increases the dynamic and and sporty driving behavior of the BMW.
Due to the independent compression and rebound setting options, the suspension can be adjusted individually in terms of handling, driving comfort, and sportiness.
KW automotive has developed a number of suspension setups for numerous BMW models and is also cooperating with the Munich automotive manufacturer on various special models and motor sport projects. For example, for the official BMW customer motor sport program, KW provides dampers that are independently adjustable in compression and rebound damping for the BMW M235i Racing. Drivers of the new BMW 5-series (G30) can also benefit from this cooperation.
Many drivers like to use sporty light-alloy rims, which are not offered by BMW, and with the adjustable dampers of the Variant 3 coilovers, they can now take into account the different wheel / tire combinations in regards to driving dynamics and driving comfort.
The rebound stage can be set either stiffer or softer with 16 exact clicks via the rebound adjuster at the upper end of the piston rod. With a lower rebound force, the comfort is increased, while at a higher rebound force, the handling is further increased and the body vibrations are reduced.
So even at very high speeds, the steering precision is noticeably improved. Independently, the patented KW multi-way valve can be adjusted at the low speed compression level, which in combination with the suspension spring also has an influence on the immersion speed of the piston rod.
Via the integrated click wheel located directly on the stainless steel housing, the damping force can be adjusted in twelve clicks separately from the rebound, so that hardly any pitch and roll movements occur even in extremely demanding driving maneuvers.
In addition, a higher compression stage on the front axle supports an even more direct steering and on the rear axle it counteracts the oversteering.
Continuous lowering without losing the remaining comfort
For the Variant 3 suspension technology, KW also uses pre-set high speed compression valves. This enables when driving over ground shafts or large cross-joints, even at the maximum lowering of the BMW that the valves are opened and the suspension absorbs it effortlessly.
This means the sedan cannot pitch in such driving situations, it remains drivable and stable, eliminating a sudden shockwave through the chassis of vehicle.
In the context of the part certificate, the new BMW 5-series (G30) can be lowered from 30 to 55 mm.
