Launch of the KW coilover suspension kits for Tesla Model Y

Already for Tesla Model S and Tesla Model 3 are KW coilover kits available. Now the KW V3 made of stainless steel is available for the Tesla Model Y AWD.

We at KW automotive benefit from the increased demand for Tesla vehicle models worldwide in all markets. For all Tesla Model Y (AWD) the KW Variant 3 (KW V3) coilover kit adjustable in compression and rebound damping is now available.

For example, we already developed an adaptive KW DDC coilover suspension kit with a hydraulic lift system (HLS) for the Tesla Model S.

For more and more cars from Tesla, KW automotive offers coilover suspension kits with adaptive or manually adjustable shocks.

Advice: The Tesla Model Y (AWD) doesn’t have the same axle geometry as the Tesla Model 3 (AWD).

Made in Germany from stainless steel, the KW V3 is available for all Tesla Model Y with all-wheel-drive. For the Y with rear-wheel-drive we will also have a KW Variant 3. Promised.

Since we launched our coilover suspension kits for Tesla Model 3, our partners and dealers are in touch with a totally new customer group.

People who have never thought of modifying anything on their production car before their first Tesla. Thank you, Elon Musk! The all-wheel-drive Tesla Model Y, which weighs up to two tons, benefits from significantly better support of the electric SUV body by upgrading to a KW coilover suspension.

Whereas steering and braking on solid, flat-level road surfaces result in slow piston rod speeds, high damper speeds occur on poorly maintained bumpy tarmac even when driving straight ahead.

Right away, a KW Variant 3 (KW V3) for the Tesla Model 3 with all-wheel drive does not fit a Tesla Model Y with all-wheel drive. But at KW, we go one or two steps further in suspension development than some others.

For example, the shock absorber’s internal parts of a KW Variant 3 (KW V3) for the Model Y differ from the shock of a KW coilover suspension Variant 3 for the Model 3, but the adjustment mechanism has not changed. The KW V3 (Variant 3) can still be adjusted in low-speed damper forces (for slow piston rod speeds), thanks to our two-stage multi-valve technology.

Rebound adjustment at the rear axle shock – each adjustment of the 16 clicks makes a noticeable change in the damping.

The adjustable low-speed rebound stage influences the rebound during load changes in the compressed state. It’s to adjust the handling characteristics to be stiffer or more comfortable.

During production pre-tuned to the Model Y high-speed compression and rebound valves in the KW V3 only become active when the pavement surface in the form of transverse joints, edges, or bumps becomes noticeable as a disturbing factor in the wheel’s vertical acceleration.

The preloaded high-speed valves open, the wheel can compress, and so the Model Y does not lose contact with the road when it encounters bumps. The Low-speed compression, on the other hand, further influences the turn-in, pitching behavior when braking and accelerating the heavy electric-powered SUV; likewise, to a certain extent, the ride comfort.

The low-speed compression stage is adjustable in up to twelve clicks

In the KW coilover suspension Variant 3 for the Tesla Model Y, the compression adjusters are integrated on the front-axle struts, just as they are on the rear-axle dampers.

The rebound dials, on the other hand, are plugged into the piston rod on the front axle strut. They are also integrated into the rear-axle shock absorbers. For those who do not want to always insert the adjustment wheel, we have also developed a rebound extension shaft. These are available everywhere at our KW dealers or you can order them directly in our store.

As a result, the Tesla electric SUV with the KW coilover suspension Variant 3 drives significantly sportier, without scarifying the residual ride comfort. In other words, the KW suspension setup is as firm as necessary and as sporty and comfortable as possible in everyday driving.

In the case of the Tesla Model 3 with rear-wheel-drive, the electromobility specialist Nextmove from Leipzig proved that installing a KW coilover suspension kit increases the range by as much as seven percent in conjunction with the standard wheel-tire combination.

Oh, before we forget: Within the scope of the parts certificate, the KW coilover suspension allows the Tesla Model Y (AWD) to be stepless lowered between 25 and 50 millimeters on both axles.
