Porsche sets new lap record on the Nordschleife with 6:43.300 minutes

In midsummer-like temperatures and an asphalt temperature of 41 degrees Celsius, Porsche broke the previously valid record for street cars of 6:48,047 minutes on the Nürburgring Nordschleife under the supervision of a notary on June 14, 2021.

The sportscar: A Porsche 911 GT2 RS with a standard performance of 700 hp and the Manthey Performance Kit. The Manthey Performance Kit for the 911 GT2 RS (Type 991) was developed in close collaboration between the Porsche Development Center in Weissach and our customer Manthey-Racing GmbH.

Increased driving safety in the limits of driving dynamics guaranteed

The special thing about the kits sold by the European Porsche Centers as part of the Porsche Tequipment accessories program is the advantage that all aerodynamic, brake, and suspension components, as well as lightweight magnesium wheels with aero discs, are exclusively coordinated with each other.

Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R tires, which are licensed for road use, were installed on the 20- and 21-inch wheels as mixed tires. The wheels, which are available in brilliant silver, black, aurum, white gold metallic, and platinum, benefit from their weight of 11.4 kilograms.

The MR coilover consists of MacPherson struts with 3-way adjustable KW damper cartridges in an up-side-down design (“Inverted Monotube Design”) on the front axle. Thanks to the reservoir, which can be installed in any position, the gas pressure-volume and the high-speed and low-speed compression forces are easily adjustable. The low-speed rebound is adjusted at the bottom of the strut.

The KW Solid Piston Technology, which is very successful in GT3 motorsports, is used on the drive axle. For example, Manthey Racing relied on these racing dampers, which are based on the Solid Piston principle, for its recent overall victories at the Nürburgring 24h race (2018 and 2021).

As can be seen in the onboard recordings of Lars Kern’s record drive on the 20.8-kilometer track, the Porsche 911 GT2 RS, which is optimized with the Manthey Performance Kit, remains safely controllable even during aggressive maneuvers over curbs.

“With the Manthey Performance Kit, the 911 GT2 RS literally sticks to the track – especially in fast corners, you nearly feel like you’re in a race car. It’s really breathtaking how the car puts its 700 hp on the road, how well it brakes, and how controllable it always remains,” states Lars Kern.

The development of the Manthey Performance Kit was strongly influenced by the motorsport experience of the Manthey team, one of the world’s leading Porsche racing teams. In 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2011, 2018, and 2021, the company founded by Olaf Manthey 25 years ago won the Nürburgring 24h race seven times. Porsche AG owns 51 percent of this company, which is run by the brother’s Martin and Nicolas Raeder.

The Manthey aerodynamic components are also perfectly matched to the suspension. Additional flaps at the front combined with a carbon subfloor and further air control elements at the front wheels increase the downforce at the front axle. Additionally, there is a new rear wing, an optimized diffuser, and aerodiscs on the rear wheels.

At 200 km/h, the downforce increases from 49 to 70 kilograms, and at the rear axle from 93 to 200 kilograms at the same speed. The PCCB ceramic brake system was given special brake pads and steel-coated brake lines for reduced fading, better measurement, and even more direct pedal feedback.

The Manthey Performance Kit, which is available and sold exclusively as a complete package, can now be ordered in Europe from Porsche Tequipment at a Porsche Center, and will then be introduced in other markets. A short hint: the warranty-approved by Porsche for all Porsche 911 GT2 RS, which are re-equipped with a Manthey Kit before July 1, 2021, can be regained in a Porsche Center after an inspection of the vehicle.
